Williamstown Reads
“World Book Night”

Williamstown Reads World Book NightWednesday, May 16th

A community-wide book discussion was held on May 16, 2012, at the Williamstown Gardens as residents gathered to share ideas and thoughts about “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou.  The discussion was facilitated by Williamstown resident and Johnson State College professor, Regina Ritscher. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” was the APL’s World Book Night selected title.  It is the autobiography of Angelou’s Arkansas childhood and was nominated in 1970 for the National Book Award.

“I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” is one of thirty titles on this year’s World Book Night list.  The Ainsworth Public Library applied to be a World Book Night “giver” and was one of 5,000 selected U.S. participants from the 30,000 applications received.  Other World Book Night titles included Kate DiCamillo’s “Because of Winn-Dixie” and “A Prayer for John Meaney” by John Irving.
